Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan #1 (of 5)

Writer: Declan Shalvey
Artist: Mike Henderson
Publisher: Marvel
Rating: 12+

“What do you get when you cross a regenerative, cranky, old X-Man with a regenerative, wacky, Wade Wilson? DEADPOOL Vs. OLD MAN LOGAN! James “Logan” Howlett is after a newly discovered Omega-Level mutant and he just won’t let Deadpool help. So, naturally, Deadpool vows to outmatch his newly marked enemy for the entirety of his mission!”

Let’s be clear about this: the Deadpool vs. [insert character here] formula has been done a LOT.  I mean A LOT!  So my anticipation for this particular book was tempered at best.  However, if you like Old Man Logan (spoilers: he’s back) then you will enjoy this story.  A short 5 part arc means that you don’t need to spend a ton to enjoy both Deadpool (I like to call him DP now – you know – for reasons) and Old Man Logan.  But you will enjoy watching Logan give it to DP as much as possible…

Those of you who read Deadpool vs [insane character pairing] are already aware of Declan Shalvey’s storytelling.  The dialog is machine gun fast and is insanely funny – bringing DP down to earth a bit and making Logan and bit less dark.  Mike Henderson’s art style is more of a anime style – lots of open mouths and readily apparent emotions.  Mike also does a ton of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As a result, this style works well for this book.

I always say this but: this is a short standalone series – only 5 books.  You don’t have to worry about getting involved in a long term relationship – its more of a wham bam thank you ma’am.  Entirely appropriate.  We need more of these shorter series rather than running stories and characters into the ground. Pretty soon DP will run out of characters to vs and that’s ok with me…
